Project
Gotham Racing for the Xbox:
Yeeaawnn..
Oh wait,
maybe I should give you a more comprehensive opinion
of this game. First off I should perhaps divulge my
bias. I've got a force feedback steering wheel on my
PC, and I find it to be the 'right way' to play a driving
game. Sometimes the best way to relax is to drink half
a bottle of scotch and drive the track backwards in
Need for Speed 6, watching the replay in double time.
So
first off this game starts off with a huge handicap.
Gamepads are not the best controller for a car. That
aside I still thought this game was dull. Oh sure it's
got good music and some pretty graphics, but sometimes
that's just not enough. To progress in Project Gotham
Racing, and unlock more cars, you need to collect
'kudos' points from races. Kudo's are rewarded for 'style',
which in this game seems to translate into 'successfully
turning corners'. Kudo's are deducted for crashing or
getting passed by other cars. Kudo's are a lame substitute
for cash.
Though
the backgrounds are decent, and I like the radio announcer
theme for the soundtrack, the race circuits themselves
seem pretty much the same; dull inner city tracks, going
around in a circle.
Quite frankly
I'm bored of games that don't seem to add much to reality.
You might not be driving a Ferrari or whatever anytime
soon, but this is hardly a creative departure from day
to day life. Give me a gun... give me some crazy jumps
and stunts... give me a way to cheat in the race. And
what the hell is my motivation for getting kudos? Give
me cash. I understand that.
Not recommended.
